Westlake Village is located just 9 miles inland from the Pacific Ocean, so a quick drive through the canyon leads directly into Malibu. We love to dine at Malibu's restaurants on the beach, or take this route down the Pacific Coast Highway to Santa Monica. Of course, Westlake's own restaurants, especially those on the Lake, are also beautiful.
The Chumash Indians moved into this region approximately 3,000 years ago, and lived by hunting rabbits and other game. We have discovered that without many of their natural predators these days, the rabbit population in this area - called the Conejo Valley - is quite abundant. Of course, the rabbits were adorable at first, but we quickly discovered that the little pests are constantly eating our flowers and ground cover, killing our lawn, and doing their business on the driveway. As such, one of Devin's missions in the Springtime is to keep the rabbits out of our yard - especially the backyard! Devin resembles Elmer Fudd a bit some days, huntin' rabbits... :)
Amgen, which is the Biotechnology company where Kristin works, is by far the largest business in the area. With approximately 10,000 employees on the Amgen Thousand Oaks campus on any given day, the company has certainly contributed to the boom this area's housing market has seen.
